Employees in UAE Can Combine Paternity Leave with Their Annual Leave

 In the UAE, employees working for mainland companies are eligible for five working days of paid parental leave, which can be taken within the first six months after their child's birth. According to UAE labor laws, fathers have the option to combine paternity leave with their annual leave, allowing them to extend their time off to support their families during this important period.

To use this benefit, employees must provide a copy of the child's birth certificate to their employer. This flexibility is provided under Article 32(1)(b) of Federal Decree Law No. 33 of 2021 and Article 21(5) of Cabinet Resolution No. 1 of 2022.

This policy is particularly beneficial for parents who need additional time beyond the standard parental leave. By combining their paternity leave with annual leave, employees can maximize their time at home with their newborn and support their spouse during the early stages of parenthood. However, this combined leave must be taken within six months of the child's birth.
