New route to directly connect Abu Dhabi and Sharjah through Dubai; travel time could be reduced by up to 60%
Dubai: A new 80-kilometre transport corridor will directly connect Abu Dhabi and Sharjah through Dubai, as part of efforts to expand investment in infrastructure. Dubai Crown Prince, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said infrastructure development has become a key driver of economic growth and an important foundation for improving people’s quality of life. He described the project as a major milestone in preparing Dubai to meet future needs.
The new road corridor will extend from Al Fayah Road in Abu Dhabi to Al Shanoof Road in Sharjah. The 12-lane route will include 72 bridges and 17 underpasses. The project is expected to reduce travel time by up to 60% and directly benefit more than 3.1 million people. It will also provide direct connections to Al Maktoum International Airport and the national Etihad Rail network.
The first phase of the project will cover the section from Al Shanoof Road in Sharjah to Dubai–Al Ain Road, with an estimated cost of Dh3.5 billion. The new corridor is part of Dubai’s long-term investments aimed at strengthening its transport network in line with population growth and economic expansion.
