Scammers may use fake offers and social media accounts to steal money and personal information

Dubai: Dubai Police has warned residents about fake websites and social media accounts promoting fraudulent offers linked to Global Village Season 31. Scammers may create pages that look similar to official platforms to trick people into making fake purchases or sharing personal information that could later be misused.

The warning comes as Global Village prepares to launch its exclusive VIP Packs for Season 31. Presales will run from September 21 to 25, allowing visitors to purchase their preferred packs early for an additional fee. General sales will begin on September 26. The VIP Packs will be released in stages through the Coca-Cola Arena website*. Police noted that similar scams tend to appear every year around the announcement of Global Village activities and packages.

Residents are advised to be careful with unusually cheap prices and offers that seem too good to be true. Tickets and packages should only be purchased through official and authorised channels. People should also avoid clicking links or following social media accounts from unknown sources. Anyone who comes across a suspicious account or link can report it through the Dubai Police eCrime platform or by calling 901. Such reports help authorities combat cybercrime and protect others from falling victim to scams.

Dubai: Authorities in the UAE have introduced stricter regulations for people keeping pets, including dogs and cats. The new requirements aim to ensure the safety of animals and maintain cleanliness in cities. Under the rules, pet owners must register their animals with the municipality’s veterinary services and obtain the necessary licence. Microchipping is also mandatory for all dogs and cats.

Pet owners must ensure that their animals receive their required annual vaccinations on time. Once registration is completed, owners will receive a plastic identification tag containing a registration number. This tag must be attached to the pet’s collar at all times. The microchip and registration tag can help authorities identify and locate pets if they go missing.

Those bringing pets into the UAE from India or other countries must also comply with the regulations. Pets must have microchips that meet international ISO standards, along with updated vaccination certificates. Owners should ensure that all these requirements are fulfilled before bringing their pets into the country.

New 80km transport corridor to link Al Maktoum Airport and Etihad Rail

New route to directly connect Abu Dhabi and Sharjah through Dubai; travel time could be reduced by up to 60%

Dubai: A new 80-kilometre transport corridor will directly connect Abu Dhabi and Sharjah through Dubai, as part of efforts to expand investment in infrastructure. Dubai Crown Prince, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said infrastructure development has become a key driver of economic growth and an important foundation for improving people’s quality of life. He described the project as a major milestone in preparing Dubai to meet future needs.

The new road corridor will extend from Al Fayah Road in Abu Dhabi to Al Shanoof Road in Sharjah. The 12-lane route will include 72 bridges and 17 underpasses. The project is expected to reduce travel time by up to 60% and directly benefit more than 3.1 million people. It will also provide direct connections to Al Maktoum International Airport and the national Etihad Rail network.

The first phase of the project will cover the section from Al Shanoof Road in Sharjah to Dubai–Al Ain Road, with an estimated cost of Dh3.5 billion. The new corridor is part of Dubai’s long-term investments aimed at strengthening its transport network in line with population growth and economic expansion.

Abu Dhabi: Health experts in the UAE are advising residents to take the seasonal influenza vaccine in September, as flu cases are expected to increase in the coming weeks with the change in weather. Since the body may take around two weeks to develop strong immunity after vaccination, residents are encouraged to get vaccinated early.

As part of the 2026–27 National Influenza Vaccination Campaign, priority is being given to pregnant women, children aged six months and above, school students, senior citizens, people with chronic illnesses, healthcare workers, and Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. Experts have warned that flu transmission could increase from October, while hospital visits for respiratory illnesses may rise significantly during the winter months from December to February.

The UAE has also expanded its seasonal respiratory disease prevention measures this year. Health authorities are giving special attention to vaccinations that help protect pregnant women and older adults from viruses that can cause serious respiratory complications. In addition to the traditional flu injection, a needle-free nasal spray influenza vaccine is also available in the country.

Dubai Municipality Announces New Guidelines to Improve Workers’ Living Conditions

Dubai: Dubai Municipality has announced comprehensive new accommodation standards to improve the quality of life and ensure safer living conditions for workers. Under the new requirements, each worker must be provided with a minimum of 3.7 square metres of sleeping space. The guidelines also specify that each worker should have a total area of 8.9 to 10.3 square metres for various common services, along with 0.75 to 1.5 square metres for recreational facilities and open spaces.

To ensure high standards of accommodation, public health and safety, the municipality conducted extensive inspections of 1,417 buildings. Following the inspections, 19 accommodation facilities that met higher standards were selected as model workers’ residences. Of these, three received Platinum ratings, nine received Gold ratings and seven received Silver ratings. The municipality also plans to gradually modernise pedestrian pathways, bridges, roads, parking facilities, commercial centres and social and recreational spaces in workers’ residential areas.

Dubai Municipality has also developed a unified database that allows government authorities to share information about workers’ accommodation facilities. The digital system will help assess the current condition of buildings, the quality of available services and the infrastructure required for future development. This will enable authorities to identify priorities and implement improvement projects more efficiently.

ദുബായ് : ദുബായ് മെട്രോ റെഡ് ലൈനിലെ ഓൺപാസീവ് സ്റ്റേഷന് ഇനി ‘ഗാർമിൻ മെട്രോ സ്റ്റേഷൻ’ എന്നായിരിക്കും പേര്. റോഡ്സ് ആൻഡ് ട്രാൻസ്പോർട്ട് അതോറിറ്റി (ആർടിഎ) ആഗോള സാങ്കേതികവിദ്യാ ബ്രാൻഡായ ഗാർമിനുമായി 10 വർഷത്തെ കരാറിൽ ഒപ്പുവച്ചു. ഗാർമിന്റെ യുഎഇ വിതരണക്കാരായ അമിത് റീട്ടെയിൽ വഴിയാണ് കരാർ നടപ്പാക്കുന്നത്. പരസ്യ മേഖലയിലെ പ്രമുഖ കമ്പനികളായ മദാ മീഡിയയും ഹൈപ്പർമീഡിയയും ചേർന്നാണ് കരാർ നടപടികൾ ഏകോപിപ്പിച്ചത്. ദുബായ് മെട്രോ സ്റ്റേഷൻ നാമകരണ പദ്ധതിയുടെ ഭാഗമാകുന്ന ആദ്യ പ്രമുഖ രാജ്യാന്തര സാങ്കേതികവിദ്യാ ബ്രാൻഡാണ് ഗാർമിൻ എന്ന് ആർടിഎ അറിയിച്ചു. പൊതു-സ്വകാര്യ പങ്കാളിത്തം ശക്തിപ്പെടുത്താനും സാമ്പത്തിക വളർച്ചയ്ക്ക് പിന്തുണ നൽകാനും ഇത്തരം കരാറുകൾ സഹായിക്കുമെന്ന് ആർടിഎ റെയിൽ ഏജൻസി സിഇഒ അബ്ദുൽ മൊഹ്സെൻ കൽബത്ത് പറഞ്ഞു.

അൽ ഖൂസിനും അൽ സഫയ്ക്കും ഇടയിലുള്ള ഈ സ്റ്റേഷൻ 2010ൽ ‘നൂറുൽ ബാങ്ക് സ്റ്റേഷൻ’ എന്ന പേരിലാണ് പ്രവർത്തനം ആരംഭിച്ചത്. 2020 നവംബറിൽ ‘അൽ സഫ സ്റ്റേഷൻ’ എന്ന് പുനർനാമകരണം ചെയ്തു. തുടർന്ന് 2023 ജനുവരിയിൽ എഐ കമ്പനിയായ ഓൺപാസീവിന്റെ പേര് സ്റ്റേഷന് നൽകുകയായിരുന്നു. ഇപ്പോഴാണ് വീണ്ടും പേര് മാറ്റി ‘ഗാർമിൻ മെട്രോ സ്റ്റേഷൻ’ ആക്കുന്നത്.

പേരുമാറ്റത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി മെട്രോ ശൃംഖലയിലെ സ്റ്റേഷൻ ബോർഡുകൾ, ഡിജിറ്റൽ സംവിധാനങ്ങൾ, പൊതുഗതാഗത ആപ്പുകൾ, യാത്രക്കാർക്കുള്ള അനൗൺസ്മെന്റുകൾ എന്നിവ സെപ്റ്റംബർ മുതൽ നവംബർ അവസാനം വരെ ഘട്ടംഘട്ടമായി മാറ്റും. ഈ മാറ്റങ്ങളോട് യാത്രക്കാർ സഹകരിക്കണമെന്ന് ആർടിഎ അഭ്യർഥിച്ചു. പേരുമാറ്റവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട സംശയങ്ങൾക്കും സഹായത്തിനുമായി മെട്രോ സ്റ്റേഷനുകളിൽ ആർടിഎ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരുടെ സേവനം ലഭ്യമാകുമെന്നും അധികൃതർ അറിയിച്ചു.

Oman-UAE high-speed rail link gets major approval

Travel from Sohar to Abu Dhabi could take just 100 minutes

Abu Dhabi: Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has officially approved the bilateral agreement for the development of a high-speed railway linking Oman and the UAE. The approval completes a major legal step for the $2.5 billion Hafeet Rail project. The Royal Decree ratifies the historic agreement signed by the two countries on June 21. The 238-kilometre railway will connect Sohar in Oman with the UAE’s national Etihad Rail network through Al Buraimi and Al Ain.

The Hafeet Rail project is being developed as a joint venture between Etihad Rail, Oman Rail and Mubadala Investment Company. Once operational, passenger trains will travel at speeds of up to 200 km/h, allowing passengers to reach Al Ain from Sohar in around 47 minutes and Abu Dhabi in approximately 100 minutes. Along with passenger services, the project will also provide high-speed freight transport. Each cargo train will be capable of carrying more than 15,000 tonnes of goods and around 270 standard containers, giving a major boost to mining, steel, petrochemical, agriculture and e-commerce sectors in both countries.

Construction of the project is already around 40% complete, with work progressing rapidly in Al Ain, Al Buraimi, Sohar and Wadi Al Jizzi. The railway route will pass through mountains and valleys and will include advanced tunnels, bridges and flood-protection systems. The project is expected to strengthen transport and trade links between Oman and the UAE while creating a faster and more efficient connection for both passengers and cargo.

അബൂദബി:ഒമാനും യു.എ.ഇയും തമ്മിലുള്ള അതിവേഗ റെയിൽ ശൃംഖല യാഥാർഥ്യമാക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള ഉഭയകക്ഷി കരാറിന് ഒമാൻ ഭരണാധികാരി സുൽത്താൻ ഹൈതം ബിൻ താരിഖ് ഔദ്യോഗിക അംഗീകാരം നൽകി. ഇതോടെ ഏകദേശം 2.5 ബില്യൺ ഡോളർ ചെലവ് പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്ന ഹഫീത് റെയിൽ പദ്ധതിയുടെ പ്രധാന നിയമനടപടികൾ പൂർത്തിയായി. ജൂൺ 21ന് ഇരുരാജ്യങ്ങളും ഒപ്പുവെച്ച ചരിത്രകരാറിനാണ് രാജകീയ ഉത്തരവിലൂടെ ഒമാൻ അംഗീകാരം നൽകിയത്. 238 കിലോമീറ്റർ ദൈർഘ്യമുള്ള റെയിൽപാത ഒമാനിലെ സുഹാറിനെ അൽ ബുറൈമി, അൽ ഐൻ വഴി യു.എ.ഇയുടെ ദേശീയ റെയിൽ ശൃംഖലയായ ഇത്തിഹാദ് റെയിലുമായി ബന്ധിപ്പിക്കും.

ഇത്തിഹാദ് റെയിൽ, ഒമാൻ റെയിൽ, മുബദല ഇൻവെസ്റ്റ്മെന്റ് കമ്പനി എന്നിവയുടെ സംയുക്ത സംരംഭമായ ഹഫീത് റെയിലാണ് പദ്ധതി നടപ്പാക്കുന്നത്. റെയിൽപാത യാഥാർഥ്യമാകുന്നതോടെ യാത്രാ ട്രെയിനുകൾ മണിക്കൂറിൽ 200 കിലോമീറ്റർ വരെ വേഗത്തിൽ സഞ്ചരിക്കും. ഇതുവഴി സുഹാറിൽ നിന്ന് അൽ ഐനിലേക്ക് ഏകദേശം 47 മിനിറ്റിലും അബൂദബിയിലേക്ക് 100 മിനിറ്റിലും എത്താനാകും. യാത്രാ സർവീസുകൾക്ക് പുറമെ അതിവേഗ ചരക്ക് ഗതാഗതവും പദ്ധതിയുടെ പ്രധാന സവിശേഷതയാണ്. ഒരു ചരക്ക് ട്രെയിനിന് 15,000 ടണ്ണിലധികം ചരക്കും ഏകദേശം 270 സ്റ്റാൻഡേർഡ് കണ്ടെയ്‌നറുകളും വഹിക്കാനാകും. ഖനനം, സ്റ്റീൽ, പെട്രോകെമിക്കൽസ്, കൃഷി, ഇ-കൊമേഴ്‌സ് തുടങ്ങിയ മേഖലകൾക്ക് ഇത് വലിയ വാണിജ്യ നേട്ടമുണ്ടാക്കുമെന്നാണ് പ്രതീക്ഷ.

പദ്ധതിയുടെ നിർമാണം ഇതിനകം 40 ശതമാനത്തോളം പൂർത്തിയായിട്ടുണ്ട്. അൽ ഐൻ, അൽ ബുറൈമി, സുഹാർ, വാദി അൽ ജിസി എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ നിർമാണ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ അതിവേഗം പുരോഗമിക്കുകയാണ്. പർവതങ്ങളും താഴ്‌വരകളും കടന്നുപോകുന്ന റെയിൽപാതയിൽ അത്യാധുനിക തുരങ്കങ്ങളും പാലങ്ങളും വെള്ളപ്പൊക്ക പ്രതിരോധ സംവിധാനങ്ങളും ഉൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള അടിസ്ഥാന സൗകര്യങ്ങളാണ് ഒരുക്കുന്നത്. ഒമാനും യു.എ.ഇയും തമ്മിലുള്ള യാത്രാ, ചരക്ക് ഗതാഗത മേഖലകളിൽ വലിയ മാറ്റത്തിന് വഴിയൊരുക്കുന്നതായിരിക്കും ഹഫീത് റെയിൽ പദ്ധതി.
