The amnesty announced by the UAE offers an opportunity to former UAE residents who had left the country with an entry ban, as they may be able to return to the country.
The former residents who got an entry ban while leaving the country can apply for any kind of visa [tourist/visit/ resident/ investor] through normal channels during the amnesty period.
They can utilise this opportunity only if there is no pending legal cases against them in any court of law.
Those who were convicted and served their imprisonment in the UAE for serious crimes [such as drug related crimes, human trafficking and violence etc] will not be considered for this reprieve.
However, someone who was convicted and served his or her jail sentence for minor crimes might be considered.
Generally, people who got an entry ban in the past for residency law violations such as overstaying and absconding can avail of the amnesty.
Still, each case will be scrutinised individually and a decision will be taken accordingly.
A guideline issued by the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi on Sunday also said that a person, who was banned from entering the UAE in the past, could avail of the amnesty.
They can approach to visit the UAE or seek employment in the UAE through normal existing procedures. Their entry will be considered after scrutiny on case to case basis; and those banned on the basis of criminal or drug related cases will not be permitted to enter the UAE, the embassy said.
