How can I bring a housemaid from Sri Lanka?
An expatriate can sponsor a housemaid if the following conditions are met:
Salary: Sponsor's monthly salary should not be less than Dh25,000.
Yearly Fees: Sponsor should pay Dh5767 as an annual fee at Immigration (every year to be repeated. Typing Charge extra)
Deposit: Dh2020 to be paid in Cash at Immigration after approval. This amount will be refunded after Maid's Visa cancellation and exit. Dh220 should be paid at Immigration as file opening fees.
+ The housemaid and the Sponsor/spouse should not be related
+ The Sponsor should be a resident in the UAE living with his/her family
Age: Sri Lankan maid's age should not be less than 23 years if she comes on maid visa from Sri Lanka.
+ Medical fitness report from Sri Lanka. This report should be attached with maid visa application.
Maid's Salary: Minimum Monthly Salary for Sri Lankan Housemaid: Dh850
Documents required for Entry Visa application at Immigration
1. Submit online Entry Visa Permit application through Tadbeer Centre or AMER Centre.
Application Fee: Dh3325 (If the maid is inside UAE). This amount includes Dh2000 deposit which is refundable after cancellation of the maid. This amount also includes Dh120 for insurance instead of Bank Guarantee. (Service Charge extra). If the maid is out of UAE: Dh2742.
2. Maid's passport copy + one photograph with white background.
3. Passport copy of Sponsor and Spouse+ If the sponsor is an Investor/Partner: Copy of the Contract showing his shareholding, Copy and original of the partners' financial security deposit, copy of the Trade License and Partners List.
House Rent Agreement: Copy of residence Tenancy Contract consisting of minimum two bedrooms. It has to be attested through Ejari online system of Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA). If you are living out of Dubai, attach Municipality attested Tenancy Contract and Electricity Bill.
Affidavit from the Consulate stating that the Maid is not related with the Sponsor and spouse. Separate Affidavit to be made for both Sponsor and spouse. (This is applicable only if the Maid is from same nationality of the Sponsor). Affidavit Fees Dh110 to be paid at Sri Lankan Consulate / Embassy.
If the Maid is inside UAE on Visit Visa/Tourist Visa, Dh1320 to be paid extra for Status Change (Dh680 to issue visa inside the country and Dh640 for status amendment). In this case no need Sri Lanka Consulate related procedures after get issued the visa. But No Relation Certificate from Consulate is must if the Maid is from same nationality of the Sponsor. This certificate is required at the time of applying for entry visa at Immigration.
NOTE: Maid's Visa (e-visa) will be issued and mailed to the applicant's maid ID within hours if the requirements are completed.
Labour Contract will be issued along with the Entry Permit application at Tadbeer Centre. Fee for contract: Dh253. This amount is included in the application fee mentioned above. This agreement has to be signed by both the sponsor and Maid and submit at the time of stamping her visa after entry. Immigration employee will ask the salary of Maid at the time of typing entry visa application.
+ Maid Visa is valid for one year: if the sponsor is an expatriate
+ Maid Visa is valid for two years: if the sponsor is UAE National
OTHER CONDITIONS OF SRI LANKAN CONSULATE
+ Working hours of the maid should not exceed 12 hours per day
+ Air ticket from Sri Lanka to UAE at the time of joining and return after completion of the contract.
+ After getting issued Maid Visa from Immigration, the following procedures to be completed at Sri Lankan Consulate / Embassy.
Documents required at Sri Lankan Consulate / Embassy
1. Sponsor's passport copy.
2. Domestic Worker's passport copy.
3. Duly filled Contract Form with the sponsor's signature.
4. Original visa and two photocopies thereof.
5. Fees Dh185
6. Deposit of Dh3675 (US$1000) by the sponsor for domestic female workers only. This deposit is refundable on termination of the contract of the maid subject to conditions mentioned in the contract.
EMIGRATION CLEARANCE
+ To get Immigration clearance from Sri Lanka, the child (if any) of maid should not be less than six years of age. She has to get clearance letter from the government agent in her Village. Then approach Bureau of Foreign Employment with the clearance letter, Original visa and Employment Contract attested by Sri Lankan Consulate / Embassy, UAE.
Documents required for Refund of Security Deposit:You need to approach the Consulate/Embassy only after departure of the Maid
1. Application for refund of Security Deposit
2. Copy of the passport with departure stamp
3. Copy of the Employment Contract
4. Original Cash Receipt
5. Visa cancellation receipt issued from Immigration
6. Copy of the return Air ticket
7. A letter from the employee saying that no dues from the employer (No claim certificate). This letter you have to get signed before the exit of Housemaid.

Dos and don'ts to avoid trouble with maids
+ Give the maid a true picture of what to expect before she comes to work for you. Make her understand she is not coming for a holiday abroad
+ Choose a maid who does not have an ailing husband or small kids back home. They may have genuine concerns and can easily become homesick
+ Wait for a month before you stamp the visa on the passport. That gives you enough time to study her behaviour and commitment to work.
+ Don't let your housemaid go out unaccompanied for a long period of time. You are inviting trouble.
+ Always keep monthly salary slips and make your maid signs on them on their pay day. You may need to show proof at the embassy.

Hiring an Absconding Maid
The person who hires an absconding maid faces a Dh50,000 fine as per Article 34 of the Foreigners' Entry and Residency Law, or otherwise faces a maximum jail term of six months. Absconding maids will be jailed and deported." (The employer will be fined Dh100,000 if he/she hires two such absconders.
