What does the law say?
The UAE's laws have clearly laid out the legal recourse available to an individual whose reputation is maligned by another person's actions.
Online defamation
Article 21 of the Federal Law NO.5 of 2012 states that an individual who is guilty, "shall be punished by imprisonment of a period of at least six months and a fine not less than Dh150,000...and not in excess of Dh500,000, or either of these two penalties whoever uses a computer network or and electronic information system or any information technology means for invasion of privacy of other person...in other than the cases allowed by the law and by any of the following ways:
1. Eavesdropping, interception, recording, transferring, transmitting or disclosure of conversations or communications, or or audio or visual materials...
2. Photographing others or creating, transferring, disclosing, copying or saving electronic photos.
3. Publishing news, electronic photos or photographs, scenes, comments, statements or information even if true and correct...

How to lodge complaint?
You may lodge a criminal complaint with the public prosecutor or the police station having jurisdiction having jurisdiction against the accused.
