While setting up a Limited Liability Company legally requires an Emarati sponsor, who has 51 per cent ownership of the company, a sole proprietorship can be a good option for entrepreneurs who want to set-up their own services.
- It is good option if you are offering professional related services.
- For a sole proprietorship, you can get a license, with the assistance of a Local Service Agent (LSA). This makes it possible to retain 100 percent ownership of your business.
- For professional license, you would not need an Emarati sponsor but Local Service Agent (LSA) is required.
- A UAE national must be appointed as a Local Service Agent but he has no direct involvement in the business and is paid a lump sum service charge. The role of the local service agent is to assist in obtaining license, visas, etc.

Visa for partners and dependents
With a sole establishment license, you can get two visas for two partners (if there is a partner). Partner visa is valid for three years. Each partner can sponsor his or her dependents, including your spouse, children or domestic worker.
A sole establishment also makes sense for people who may be struggling with renewing their residence visas due to job loss, as you can sponsor dependents.
If the trade license holder wants to hire employees, he or she would need to apply for a visa quota with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. (MOHRE).
The number of visa permitted may be limited based on whether you have a virtual office or a full-fledged premises.
