Indians in the UAE can get India-issued international driving permits renewed at the embassy in Abu Dhabi.
India's embassies around the world and the country's Ministry of Road Transport and Highway have come together to offer this service to their citizens.
The International Driving Permit is issued in India and accepted in 130 countries – including the UAE, UK, USA, Germany, Australia, Canada and Switzerland.
IDP holders can visit Indian embassies in the countries where they are living, get their documents verified and apply for the permit to be renewed.
The embassy in Abu Dhabi will provide the service between 8.30am and 12.30pm, Sunday to Thursday.
Applicants should bring their passport, expired IDP number and a valid Indian driving licence. There is a Dh40 ($10.89) consular fee and a Dh8 Indian Community Welfare Fund charge.
Consular staff will verify the documents, which will be uploaded on https://parivahan.gov.in/parivahan/ – India’s licensing authority.
The renewed driving permit will be sent to the applicant’s home after documents are approved by the authorities in India.
After physical verification of the documents, it said, the applicants will be asked to submit duly filled-in Miscellaneous Consular Service Form (EAP-II).
Dubai and northern Emirates?
The same service can be done through IVS Global, the outsourced agency providing attestation services for Indians in Dubai and the northern emirates.
The process, documentation and fees will remain the same for Indians living in Dubai and the northern emirates as well.
Instead of visiting the consulate, Dubai and northern residents need to visit the IVS office for document submission.
Fees: Dh40 as consular service fee and Dh8 as Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF) charge.
The applicant would need to upload all the relevant documents along with the receipt issued by the mission in the Parivahan portal of the ministry and pay the requisite IDP fees online on the same portal.
the role of the embassy in this consular service is limited to the extent of facilitating submission of IDP renewal application form only. Any further correspondence pertaining to the subject, including status of the application would need to be verified directly from the authority concerned (MoRTH) in India.
The IDPs issued in India are accepted across 15 countries including the United Kingdom, United States, Germany, Australia, Canada, Switzerland and Bhutan and the validity of IDP is one year from the date of its issue or the validity of the domestic license whichever is earlier.
